| The simple usability, the surprisingly light weight, small
size, and low cost is the most important value of this camera. Very complex
movements are not applicable, however as much adjustment as we need for
landscape or portrait photography (if needed at all), are more then enough. In case one may try photograph bigger frame then 8x10, this type also can be recommended. Focusing is very simple, yet very precise due to the sliding bases. The only limit is, that extreme wide angle lenses are not usable with this camera. In spite of simple construction, the camera has extraordinary stability. Further simplification can be applied as well. A good example of this is a customized 24x24 format camera, that was built to use with our square shaped filmholder. In this case there is no need for separate rear, since it is built together with the body, producing further decrease in weight, size and cost. This possibility is also available for standard format cameras, however, it must be decided, whether the camera will be vertical or horizontal format. The size and weight of a 5x7 horizontal format camera, for example, can be less then a 4x5 format explorator. Savings on dimensions and weight have more and more significance with increase of format, and the compromises made, can be very useful to many photographers. |
